Monday 27.10. at 19 Countercurrent – A joint production by the Ballet School and the Pop & Jazz Conservatory

Balance
Dancers: Linda Leskinen and Vilho Erävesi
Musician: Matias Kontula
The human mind is a battlefield – light and dark entwine within the same motion, pulling in opposite directions, each seeking control. But when both voices are allowed to speak, movement finds peace, and the mind its balance.
Looking beyond the surface
Performers: Lyyti Pasanen and Ruut Särkijärvi
In the work we describe the contrasts between introvert and extrovert. Discussing the theme of the choreography, we realized the differences between our personalities and formed a creative work. In both song and dance you can find nuances of both personality types and reflect on how you find yourself in them.
Pressure
Authors: Wilda Pannula, Gabriel Milad,Lauri Usmi
Pressure is about a ghostly creature tormented by a painful voice inside its head, and a guitarist whose playing silences it for a moment.
Duel! Let’s dance
Performers: Teresa Savolainen, Helmi Kokkinen, Joonas “Jone” Saharinen
The performance begins with a confrontation, the dancers competing against each other – each wanting to be better than the other. Friction and competition create energy, but gradually understanding and reconciliation emerge. Eventually, everyone finds a common rhythm. The dance becomes a shared celebration of joy and jazz!
Somewhere under cover
Performers: Jasmin Heiskanen, Hilla Kiuru
“Somewhere under cover” is an ambient work that reflects the emotional scale of the dancer and the landscape of the space. The song and the very reduced piano accompaniment create a world where the character of the story is lost somewhere.
Will he find his way to where the others are or will he be missed?
The Winner
Music: Helmi Naatti
Choreography and dance by Joanna Salmenius and Veronika Kirt
“An outrageous sabotage attempt ignites a flame of hatred between two young ballet dancers. The work, surging with emotions of the past and present, traverses the twists and turns of betrayal, longing and friendship. As the story unfolds, the duel takes more twists and turns. Who will ultimately win?”
Respiro
Vocals/piano: Ellen Hellberg
Dancers: Lotta Bergman and Iita Hietikko
“Respiro” or breathing is a work that moves from slow and calming breathing towards accelerating hyperventilation. It explores the states of the body and mind through breathing. Breathing acts as both rhythm and content in the work, bringing out the sensitivity of presence.
