Special needs learners and accessibility in music education is a joint project between Pop & Jazz Conservatory’s and Helsinki Conservatory’s for the academic year 2024-2025.The project includes a joint working group, expert lectures and small group work for teachers on teaching learners with special needs, teacher training needs and accessibility of teaching.
The aim of the project is to develop the pedagogical skills of teachers from different musical disciplines to identify, understand and take into account the different neuropsychological disorders of students in the planning and delivery of lessons, so that everyone can experience a sense of achievement in both individual and group teaching. The aim is to develop the courage and skills of teachers to interact in lessons with the carers of pupils with neurodegenerative disorders and to develop a concrete model of early support “room charts” to support good teaching practice, personalisation and individualisation of the curriculum, in order to promote accessibility and meet specific support needs.
The project is funded by the Finnish National Board of Education.
