Special needs learners and accessibility in music education was a joint project between the Pop & Jazz Conservatoire and the Helsinki Conservatoire in the academic year 2024-2025.The project included a joint working group, expert lectures and small group work for teachers on teaching learners with special needs, teacher training needs and accessibility of teaching.
The aim of the project was to develop the pedagogical skills of teachers from different musical disciplines to identify, understand and take into account the different neuropsychological disorders of students in lesson planning and delivery, so that everyone can experience a sense of achievement in both individual and group teaching. The aim was to develop the courage and skills of teachers to interact in lessons with the carers of pupils with neurodevelopmental disorders and to develop an Early Support Model to support good teaching practice , personalisation and individual curriculum development , in order to promote accessibility and meet specific support needs. The project was funded by the Finnish National Board of Education.
